The focus on Portsmouth, NH was completed in the summer of 2011. It was during this portion of the project that the focus was narrowed to 'unaffiliated' markers or memorials. Unaffiliated markers and memorials are not part of a historical society, programed trail or state or national historic/preservation organization.
Thirteen historic markers and memorials and five war memorial sites, one of which included three different markers and a civil war monument, have been compiled for a total of 18 unaffiliated sites in Portsmouth. The markers and memorials commemoriate people and events beginning with John Smith's European "discovery" of New England in 1614 through honoring the Portsmouth residents who served in World War II.
