Description:

  1. Large granite slab standing upright with the front of the slab holding a bronze plaque with an eagle with wings spread standing atop the plaque inset into the granite. Below the plaque the American Legion emblem is also inset into the granite. There are flowers planted around the memorial.
  2. This memorial is similar to the WWII memorial in its size, shape and location. However this slab of granite is sitting atop a concrete base and one side of it has the memorial honor roll plaque for the Korean War and the opposite side has a similar plaque for the Vietnam War. Both of these plaques are adorned with an eagle with wings spread. There is no other adornment on this stone.

 

 

Wording:

  1. Roll of Honor, Dedicated to those of our town who have served in the armed forces and merchant marine of the U.S. in World War II. (Below this are six columns of names in alphabetical order including a handful of names that were added after the plaque was finished.)
  2. 1950 -1953 Roll of Honor, in remembrance of those who served in the Korean War. “This prayer we make in penitence that all who pass her may sense the value of a soldier’s life” – Rev. E.R. Cameron (Below this are three columns of names listed in alphabetical order with the exception of the first name, the only person from Hampton to have died in the war and the last name which was added after the plaque was completed.)
  3. 1961-1975 Roll of Honor, in remembrance of those who served in the Vietnam War. (Below this are four columns of names listed in alphabetical order.)
