Captain John Smith 1570-1631 After proving his valor in Europe & America became (Govenor?) of Virginai and Admiral of New Enlgand. While exploring this coast in the spring of 1614 made the first recorded visit to these islands named by him Smith's Isles. This tablet is placed three hundred years later by the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of NH 1914
