War memorials in Portsmouth take on a variety of forms. The World War I memorials alone account for four different forms of commemoration. The variety includes a neighborhood park, a city memorial cast in metal atop a granite base and a VFW memorial with markers to each of those lost in the war. The most prominent of these, the Memorial Bridge, has come to the end of its lifespan and will soon be dismantled and replaced.
