Exeter's historic markers tell of a past that began in 1638 when Exeter, then a seaport, was first settled by Europeans. The historic markers proudly proclaim Exeter's colonial past and role in the American Revolution including serving as the Revolutionary Capital of New Hampshire.

My challenge with Exeter was whether or not to include memorial plaques for or regarding parks.I did include a few. After the number of war memorials in the other three towns I was surprised by Exeter's approach of an impressive Civil War Monument (designed by Daniel Chester French in 1922) and the singular, and fairly recent, military memorial in front of the town offices.
